A brief historical insight… The Harnekop bunker was the main command post for war threats of the Ministry for National Defense of the GDR and is now a listed building. The bunker was built from 1971 to 1976 (beginning of planning phase in 1968) and represented the highest technical level at that time. His existence has contributed to the fact that he never had to go into operation seriously and is therefore available to interested visitors for inspection today. At the beginning of October 1990, a historically unique process took place in it: an army took off its uniform and put on the uniform of its previously valid opponent, all without a single shot. ... From 1990 to early 1993, it was used by the Bundewehr as a news center. The bunker is a three-storey protective structure of protection class A. With a floor area of ​​approx. 63 × 40 m and over 7000 m² of usable space, it is one of the largest bunkers in the area of ​​the former GDR. In operation, he would have offered 500 NVA executives protection for a maximum of 4 weeks.
